I really like the Sylvania Capsylite 50 Watt PAR30 Short 40 degree flood. I had purchased GE 35 degree floods from a local store (at the time not knowing there is a difference from one flood to the next). My lighting was uneven (but largely due to my spacing of my recessed lights too far apart. However, the Sylvania Capsylite claims to have a wider, more even light than standard halogen PAR30 bulbs (see their website). I really did find it to be wider and more even. For starters, the 40 degree beam definitely helped over the 35 degree. I like it so much that I plan to order a number more, plus backup bulbs for the years ahead.
Note that the picture on Amazon (and LightBulbsDirect) is not the Sylvania Capsylite (as of 2007/01/26). This looks like the GE bulb. The size and shape is identical, but the lense has more bumps (that's what makes a flood) in a round pattern and slightly less chrystal clear. The GE bulb looks nice and shiny, these look fine and you see more glue holding the lense on, but they look just fine once put in and work great.
There was something of an attention grabber to the GE standard halogen PAR30s that was nice with the bright center to really draw attention to recessed lighting (which also had a slightly spot-light effect). These are more even and mellow, and grab less attention due to the even lighting. The color of the light seems identical when I had some of the bulbs mixed and matched while testing, but the others had bright centers while these were more even and wider.
I ordered through Amazon from Light Bulbs Direct. The product shipped from the seller within about 4 days of my Amazon order date, was tracked by Fedex Ground, and was packed very well in styrofoam peanuts. They are very nice if you call them too.
I believe Light Bulbs Direct usually ships Sylvania Capsylite bulbs, but I believe on rare occasions they might swap for another brand of allegedly equal quality (and 40 degree light). Still, I am especially happy with the Sylvania Halogen Floods and really happy with LightBulbsDirect and would order from them again.
(Light Bulbs Etc., Inc is the same as what I refer to as Light Bulbs Direct based on their website name, sticker on their box, same phone number, and identical items and unique shipping rates.)
This is a good lamp for indoor lights. The stem that has the threaded contact is shorter and it doesn't fit outdoor lamps, like the ones with motion and light sensors. Outdoor lights require a longer socket to reach the contacts and work.
